Want to help shape the future of queer-inclusive parenthood spaces in Glasgow and beyond?

Care Beyond the Binary is a space to figure out ways of challenging gendered norms and expectations in parenthood spaces from a queer perspective.

Help us to co-design* language and methods for meaningfully engaging with parents and carers of all genders and gender presentations. This is for folks who want to be in community parent spaces but might feel uncomfortable due to current gendered expectations, assumptions about their gender, or position as a carer.

What might we co-design? We (Kinfolk Families, Amber and Rebecca) want to deliver training and consultation to well meaning but sometimes misguided health, social care and community services working with parents and carers to ensure their delivery is genuinely inclusive of genderqueer** parents and carers.

We also want to have a creative output (this could be a zine, an exhibition, a film night etc.) co-designed with you! Artistic and cultural expression is an essential tool in changing minds and changing society. We want to celebrate who we are with you and share our journey with others.

What do we actually mean?

*co-design is a collaborative process where people with lived experience, frontline staff, designers, and other stakeholders work together to create solutions, such as a new service or product.

** We use the word genderqueer as an umbrella term for anybody whose sense of self does not match society’s expectations of them based on their gender. We understand there’s no one-word-fits-all for language and would like to make it clear we welcome anyone who might feel alienated by parenthood spaces due to transness or gender nonconformity.
